Scan All About It!!

The Washington State Library has begun digitizing Washington historical newspapers beginning with the territorial period. The State Library has only microfilm of the vast majority of these newspapers, the quality of which varies dramatically. Its staff is looking for any collections of hard copy newspapers from 1852-1923 that might be available for scanning, either to replace lesser-quality microfilm versions, or to fill gaps in their collection. The newspaper images would then become part of the Library’s online collection, available for searching and browsing from the website The newspapers would be returned and the cooperating institution would also receive electronic copies of the newspaper for its own use. If you have newspapers from the territorial period and would like to collaborate with the State Library, please contact Beth Bowden for further information via email: ebowden@secstate.wa.gov or call 360.570.5570.
