Washington's 2006/2007 Grant Recipients of History Channel's Save Our History Program

Congratulations to HistoryLink.org and Sehome High School for being selected one of the 2006/2007 Grant Recipients of History Channel's Save Our History Program. Save Our History is a national history education and preservation initiative that raises awareness and support for preserving local heritage. The purpose of the program is to inspire the youth in our communities to become the preservationists of tomorrow. Preservation organizations, museums, historical societies, libraries, and archives are invited each year to join Save Our History and team up with local schools to help save their community's history. This year, The History ChannelĀ® awarded $250,000 in Save Our History grants to 27 organizations from across the country. The winner of a $10,000 grant was HistoryLink.org and Sehome High School. Read the following email update received from HistoryLink.org detailing their award:

The History Channel's Save Our History Program announced that HistoryLink.org, in partnership with Sehome High School in Bellingham, will receive a $10,000 grant to aid students in documenting the history of the Whatcom County Territorial Courthouse, the oldest brick building still standing north of San Francisco. This project received the maximum funding under the Save Our History program and was one of only 27 grants awarded nationwide.

Other partners in the project include Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed, the Northwest Region of the State Archives, and the Whatcom Museum of History and Art. HistoryLink.org deputy director Dave Wilma developed the project plan with Sehome teacher Janet Oakley.
