Clark County Cemeteries Web Project
The Clark County Genealogical Society (CCGS) located in Vancouver, Washington, has instituted an extremely worthwhile project for genealogists and family historians everywhere. Do you have an ancestor buried in Clark County Washington? Would you like information on where they are buried and perhaps even a photograph of their tombstone, but a trip to Washington state just isn't in the cards?
Well, thank The Clark County Genealogical Society for creating a free searchable website of all known Clark County Cemeteries containing links to each individual cemetery.
When completed, each individual cemetery site will contain an address with contact information, directions, a history of the cemetery (where known), maps of each cemetery, photos of gravestones, obituaries (which are being posted in a newspaper format) and burial records. Where cemeteries have been known under several names the Society has added links from those names to the present site and information.
CCGS is hoping this project will encourage other genealogical societies to take on the same kind of project for their own counties. I hope each genealogical organization in Washington takes up the challenge and completes a similar project for their county.
A tremendous amount of work has already been completed by the society, but the site is still a work in progress, so check back often for more information.
The Clark County Cemeteries Project, under the auspices of the CCGS Research & Preservation committee can be found here.
Congratulations and thank you CCGS on an exceptionally well done and important project!
