Safari Books Online

O'Reilly & Associates and The Pearson Technology Group joined forces to create a joint venture, Safari Books Online. The premise was simple: Take the best IT books from the best authors and publishers. Put them into an online, searchable database. Offer it to IT professionals as a means of addressing their never-ending need to quickly pinpoint reliable code examples and technical information.

Safari Books Online is a subscription service that costs about $10 per month for the basic membership.

In searching the Seattle Public Library I found that they now subscribe to this service and offer it online to members, for free.

What does this have to do with the Family Historian?

Do you use Photoshop or Photoshop Elements? Photoshop Elements 3: The Missing Manual By Barbara Brundage can be read online.

Do you use a digital camera in your family history research? Digital Photography: Expert Techniques By Ken Milburn can be read online, as well as a very interesting book on photograph management, The DAM Book: Digital Asset Management for Photographers By Peter Krogh.

Want to design a website for your family history information? Try this online book: Creating Web Sites: The Missing Manual By Matthew MacDonald.

Have you invested in a Photo or Video iPod and want to load those old photos in your iPod to display at a family reunion? Try this book: iPod & iTunes: The Missing Manual, 4th Edition By J.D. Biersdorfer.

If you have a Seattle Public Library card this terrific resource can be found under Browse - Databases and Web Sites Categories - Categories - Science & Technology - Computers (general) - Safari Tech Books.
